LoviSil® stands for fluid insulation. All LoviSil® cable joints are electrically insulated with fluid silicone. This way of insulation is distinctive from all shrink and push on technologies with a number of unique properties.
LoviSil® technology is universal, installer-friendly and offers the best protection. Not only can our joints boast 30 years proven worldwide field experience with an extremely low failure rate. This technology can also cope with new developments such as grid reinforcement and renewable energy.
Technology
The silicone remains fluid and encapsulates every part in the joint. This minimises the risk of partial discharge caused by air voids.
LoviSil® and moisture
Should any moisture penetrate through the inner joint, a soft, water resistant and perfectly insulating rubber is formed. This cured LoviSil® provides an additional layer of protection against the effects of moisture ingress.
LoviSil® and future grids
The patented, liquid LoviSil® insulation with minimum withstand strength E = 21kV / mm (measured according to IEC 60156) guarantees perfect and long-lasting insulation of the cable connection, especially in modern energy distribution networks where multiple stress factors are present.
LoviSil® is a silicone based insulation resistant to high temperatures and has the inherent ability to suppress partial discharges (e.g. corona). Low dissipation factor makes LoviSil® a perfect insulant for the networks highly contaminated with harmonics.
LoviSil® and PD’s
The flow properties of LoviSi®l ensure that even the smallest spaces are filled. Due to comparable permittivity of LoviSil® and XLPE, there is no electric field distortion on the interface between XLPE and LoviSil®.
Border between XLPE and LoviSil® is a physical interface (transition from one material to the other). For LoviSil® cablejoints this means: since the permittivity (epsilon) of both materials is comparable – the field refraction is minimized – the field lines follow approximately the same direction. Still there is an interface since at some point one material ends and the other starts. Electrically speaking you have the interface as well – small deviation in the values of permittivity (the refraction although minimal, is still present). The fact that there are no PD is related to the minimal refraction at the interface.
LoviSil® and PILC cables
When applied to paper-insulated cables, LoviSil® performs the same insulating function as cable grease. This guarantees a long-term quality connection.
The dielectric constant (Er value) of liquid silicone is practically identical to the insulation of polymeric cables (XLPE/ EPR) and remains so even when cured. This provides a consistently homogeneous electric field.
Finally
The polyurethane resin, Protolin®, provides a tough environmental protection for the screen components and guarantees long-term moisture resistance.
Logistic advantages
LoviSil® joints are ordered using a modular system. This makes the joint flexible to different installation scenarios and universally applicable. LoviSil® provides solutions for all cable combinations.
The modular system offers logistic advantages as it is not necessary to stock separate joints for each cable combination.
