Crossbonding cable joints offer solution for high voltage differences

At Lovink, we understand the challenges of modern networks. Our innovative solutions provide the reliability your grid needs. Take for example a recent project in southern Germany, where frequently failing joints were replaced by our advanced LoviSil® crossbonding cable joints.

The recently constructed XLPE route, fitted with shrink joints, was struggling with failures. Measurements at the terminations in the stations showed, among other things, currents in the earth shields of more than 100 amps, caused by high voltage differences. These high harmonics lead, among other things, to Ohmic losses and high temperatures in the cable which can result in accelerated component ageing.

Crossbonding solution

In cooperation with Lovink, the shrink joints were carefully dismantled, cut open and fitted with LoviSil® cable joints, which are prepared for a crossbonding function as standard.

The crossbonding joints are fitted with flexible crossbonding cables that interconnect or cross the earth shields of the individual conductors. This solution prevents currents from ‘flowing’ in the earth shields due to voltage differences. This ensures an efficient and reliable power supply.

Future-proof innovation

The grid operator is extremely satisfied with this simple, quick and reliable solution. In the future, all new XLPE cable routes will be equipped with our LoviSil® crossbonding joints. In this project Lovink shows where good innovation leads: solutions that strengthen the grid and make it future-proof.

At Lovink, we enjoy working every day on the challenges of tomorrow’s energy supply. From energy transition and renewable energy to grid reinforcement.
